Book of the Week: A Little Princess

Every little girl should read this classic by Frances Hodgson Burnett, who also wrote “The Secret Garden”. There is such magic, beauty and mystery in the story of  Sara Crew. Sara, a young girl of privilege, is left at Miss Minchin’s London boarding school while her father goes to war. Soon things take a dark turn for Sara and she will need the help of some unexpected friends to find a second chance.
This is a wonderful read-a-loud book for younger girls (6-8 years) or the perfect read alone choice for older girls (8-12 years). When I was about ten my parents gave me this book and I can distinctly remember sitting in a pile of pillows in a corner in my room, lost in this enchanting classic.
After your girl(s) have read it have a movie night and watch the perfectly lovely film – by the same name – together.
