Book of the Week: The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis

This week my column is about reading classics. So in keeping with that theme the book of the week is one of my favorite classic children’s books. The Magician’s Nephew, the first book in the Chronicles of Narnia series, is my favorite of the seven books. Set in London in 1900, this is the story of two friends, Digory Kirk and Polly Plummer. While exploring the office of Digory’s eccentric  Uncle Andrew, the two are transported into a magical world. The adventures that follow depict the genesis of Narnia and introduce some of the famous characters from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

C.S. Lewis’ writing is beautiful and extraordinarily creative. I recommend reading the whole series; it’s quick and delightful.
