Last Shameless Plug…

Here is my last attempt, as a member of the committee and a presenter, to promote the For the Love of Reading Conference, Feb. 17-18. Seriously, you don’t want to miss it and early-bird registration ends on Feb. 2.

This wonderful event is a unique opportunity for parents, grandparents, teachers and librarians to hear from and speak with some of the top literacy specialists in the country.

Here’s the breakdown of speakers and costs:
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Donalyn Miller: This sixth grade teacher is known as The Book Whisperer and is famous for helping even the most hesitant readers fall in love with books. I’ve read her book, The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child and often read her blog. She’s amazing and I know I can’t wait to hear her speak.
Stacey Bess: Did you see the popular Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, Beyond the Blackboard? Well, this is the woman whose memoir Nobody Don’t Love Nobody inspired the adaptation. She is an inspirational educator with an incredible story.

Yuyi Morales: This talented woman is an award winning illustrator and involved with some of the most celebrated examples of Latino children’s literature.
Steven L. Layne: Children’s literature professor at Judson University in Illinois, a respected literacy consultant, motivational speaker and author of 21 books. You won’t want to miss what he has to say.
BREAKOUT PRESENTERS

Anne Holman and Margaret Neville – The King’s English Bookshop: These two ladies are the best in the book business, with over 30 years combined experience. They are giving advice on how to buy books for any age and I’m eager to partake of their knowledge.
Brooke Walker, KSL Studio 5: Co-host of Utah’s #1 lifestyle show and an active member of the local community, Brooke is a talented public speaker. She has been talking with the successful women at KSL and gathering ideas on how to find time to read as a busy adult.
Susie Boyce, writer and columnist: Susie is one of my favorite people. Her column for ksl.com, Momsensical, is overflowing with laugh-out-loud humor, touching stories and practical motherly advice. She has strategies for helping kids enjoy reading, no matter what.
Gene Nelson, director of Provo City Library: Gene knows books inside and out, from children’s literature to the best adult fiction. He will present on the best books for boys as well as participate in a panel discussion on the best books of 2012.
And many more…visit uvuengagedreading.org for more info.

I am also presenting on Saturday. My presentation is called Fill Your House with Stacks of Books and I’ll be talking about the importance of having books in the home, tips for buying books, where to put them and some of my favorite books for all ages.
