Book Club: A Peculiar Party

Friday night we had our family book club for the book, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. My sister-in-law, Mary, hosted and came up with some very clever ideas.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Since the book is based on a collection of creepy vintage photos, Mary took copies of those pics and with the magic of Photoshop put all our faces onto a picture. Awesome! We walked in and, at first glance, thought she had just copied the pics from the book, but on closer inspection noticed some familiar faces. We couldn’t stop laughing.

She set them up around the room with some pub-inspired snacks (the characters stay in a pub for half the book).

 That’s my face…ha!
This book is being made into a movie by Tim Burton (one of my favorites), so Mary wrote out the names of the core characters (on a chalkboard to tie into the school for the peculiar children) and we had to suggest actors to play the characters in the new movie. It was a great way to get talking about the characters and what we liked and didn’t like about the book, even if we weren’t that good at coming up with specific actors.

We then enjoyed root beer floats and popcorn. There may have been more laughing and chatting than book discussion, but we had a great time!
