Photographer Stevie Lewis is a newly single mom focused on raising her five-year-old autistic son Charlie, and running the business she shares with her best friend. She lives in beautiful Beaufort, North Carolina, within walking distance of her parents. Her mother is the president of the Beaufort Historical Society, and her father enjoys watching Carolina Panthers football. Although Stevie’s life has its challenges, it is altogether average.
That is until rich, ruthless Vanessa Moore returns to Beaufort, determined to retrieve a magical amulet and exact revenge for her mother’s imprisonment.
It turns out Stevie’s life isn’t so average at all. She learns that the Historical Society is really a coven of witches; her mother is their queen; and Vanessa is bent on destroying them all.
When Vanessa endangers the life of young Charlie, Stevie’s dormant power rushes to the surface to save her son. With help from the clandestine coven led by her own mother, Stevie works to master her magical talent.
Just how far will Stevie go to protect her vulnerable son?
I’ve been excited to read this book since I got a sneak peak at the first chapter as part of a giveaway I did a couple of years ago. Author Chrissy Lessey doesn’t disappoint with her fast-paced, easy-to-read, enjoyable witch story. I loved the setting and the relationship between Stevie and her son Charlie, who has autism. The connection of the witches to the fames pirate Blackbeard is a great twist in the story.
If you are a witch or magic fan, this is a fabulous choice for summer reading. THE COVEN is the first book in the Crystal Coast Series. Also check out the prequel THE SECRET KEEPERS available as an ebook from Amazon.
Content note: A few brief sexual references and mild use of foul language.
